The Museo ICO in Madrid will exhibit the cutting-edge and spectacular work of MAD architects from October 31 until March 3, 2013. Speaking at the opening, Zhu Bangzao, Chinese ambassador to Spain, and Román Escolano, chairman of the Instituto de Crédito Oficial (ICO) welcomed politicians, national media and leading cultural figures in Madrid.
“Ma Yansong. Between (global) modernity and (local) tradition” shows 30 buildings from works as stunning as the City & Art Museum (Ordos, China), and the Absolute Towers (Mississauga, Canada), as well as never before shown works.
Among the projects shown in the exhibition is the City & Art Museum in Ordos, a museum for a new town in Inner Mongolia created for a population that only a few generations ago lived as nomads. Ma Yansong’s international breakthrough is shown as well, the award winning ‘Absolute Towers’; two curvacious towers located in a suburb of Toronto quickly undergoing urbanization. Ma landed the commission for the Absolute Towers by winning an international competition through a public and professional vote.
